The Med: 2010–20??
Chase’s next big venture is to take up residency in the Mediterranean Sea for several years. The idea being that it will give her four partners a good excuse for some blue water sailing (on the deliveries to and from the Med), and a great place to sail her for a few seasons. Since the Med has more months of sailing weather, this is particularly attractive when you compare it to the two months we normally get with her in Maine!
When she comes out of the Med, it is uncertain whether she will retrace her 2003 steps and head to the Caribbean via the Canaries, or perhaps take a right at Portugal and visit northern Europe. Plenty of time to decide that!
In the meantime, the trip begins with the leg from Falmouth, Maine, to the Azores, which will be skippered by Peter Stoops.
From the Azores, partner Jack McBride will be moving her directly to Gibraltar, and then into the Med. Jack has the foresight to 5 or 6 months off, so he’ll be spending a good part of that taking the boat on an eastward course. Ultimately, this year, the hope is to get her to Italy by September, at which point partners Alex Agnew, John O’Meara, and Peter Stoops will move her either to Turkey or to Croatia for her winter residence.
The following season is up in the air, but there is agreement that cruising the Aegean or the Adriatic is the goal. We’ll keep the site posted on that!
